Justification by faith alone (sola fide) is the doctrine that sinners are declared righteous before God solely through faith in Jesus Christ, apart from works of the law. This was the material cause of the Reformation and remains central to Reformed theology. Romans 3:28 declares, 'For we hold that one is justified by faith apart from works of the law.' This doctrine teaches that Christ's perfect righteousness is imputed to the believer through faith, which is itself a gift of God's grace.
